George C. Shook was born in Monroe county, Pennsylvania, September ?, 1822 and died at his home in Elm Grove township, Friday, March 31, 1893, making him a little of seventy years of age at the time of his death. He was in 1487 married to Miss Lydia Buss? of his native state. She still survives him, though she is lying low at this time with little hopes of recovery. Six children were born to them one of whom is dead. The others, on son and four daughters survive. The son, Benjamin, lives in Pennsylvania; a daughter, Mrs. George Knight, lives in Missouri; another, Mrs. Kate Philips in Hope, Nebraska; and the other two Mrs. Charles Arningdale and Mrs. Thos. Buffington, reside in the vicinity of Spring Run. Funeral Easter Sunday from Spring Run church, Rev. Moses Schrader, the Evangelical church officiated. Mr. Shook was a member of the Mennonite church in Pennsylvania and still claimed connection with that organization.
