OBITUARY.

A. J. Jones was born in Ross county, Ohio, March 5, 1829,, and died at his home near Letts, Louisa county, Iowa, November 30, 1891, of what was supposed to be Bright's disease of the kidneys. He had been ailing for over two years, but most of the time was able to walk around and accompany his wife to town in the carriage. Mr. Jones was a good neighbor and citizen. He was kind and firm in his bearing and was ever ready, at a moment's notice, to go to assist those who were sick or in distress and render them all the assistance in his power. He came to Iowa in 1865 and settled near the present family home. His first companion preceded him to the land beyond some twenty years. He was united in marriage with Mrs. A. E. Garrett, in 1874 who still survives him and who deeply feels the loss of a kind and sympathetic husband. He leaves an adopted son, Willie, aged about thirteen years, and three daughters, Mrs. Ann Storm, wife of Jackson Storm, of Dallas county, Missouri, Mrs. Thos. Manning and Mrs. Charles Gipple, of Letts. His funeral took place at Cedar Bethel on Wednesday, December 2nd. the services were conducted by Rev. L. B. Hicks of Muscatine, assisted by Rev. Proffit of Letts U. B. church. the discourse was an excellent on from Jeremiah 17;7- "Blessed is the man who trusteth in the Lord and whose hope the Lord is." A large procession of friends and neighbors accompanied the remains from the residence to the cemetery, showing the high estimation in which deceased was held by the community.
