Columbus Gazette, Columbus Junction, Iowa, Wed. February 29, 1888 page 4

Obituary – Mrs. Henrietta Meeker Edwards, wife of Professor H. S. Edwards, departed this life Feb 25th, 1888, at her home in Columbus Junction, Iowa. She was born at Fairtown, New Jersey, May 14th, 1852. Her mother died when she was only sixteen months old, and her father soon after removed to Dauphin, Pennsylvania, where most of her life was spent until her marriage to Prof. Edwards, which occurred at Alden, Hardin county, Iowa, Oct. 21st, 1880.

Mrs. Edwards was a woman of unusual qualities of mind and heart, and those who knew her best, loved and respected her most. She was very domestic in her tastes, and devoted herself unceasingly to her family, and yet no one enjoyed the society of friends more than she. She was a devoted Christian and in her last days, was wonderfully sustained, and her feeling was almost that of exaltation. To a friend she side, “I am so happy, I wish I could tell you how I feel, but I have no words to express it.” While ardently desiring to live, for her family, she was yet entirely resigned to God’s will.

She leaves a husband and two little girls of five and three years, and many friends to mourn her early death. She was of very delicate health and since the death of her baby, which occurred in October, she has steadily failed, but was able to attend to her household duties until within a week of her death.

She was taken with scarlet rash, and other complications set in, and took her off in a few days.

The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Eggert, assisted by Reverends Evans and Potter. Her remains with those of her baby, which had been buried at Columbus City, were taken to Hardin county, Monday, for interment. Prof. Edwards and his little girls have the heartfelt sympathy of the community, in their sad bereavement.
