Obituary – The subject of this memoir, Mr. George W. Strope, was born in Pa. in the year 1812, and died in Morning Sun Iowa Feb. 15, 1888 aged 75 years. Mr. Strope moved while yet a single man in Fayette Co. Ohio, when he married Miss Sarah Holland his now aged and bereaved companion who still survives him.

Eleven children were the fruit of their marriage, six daughters of whom are living, Mrs. Whited, Mrs. Shipman, Mrs. Bean, of Wapello, and Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Metts, and Mrs. Shipman of Morning Sun.

Father Strope and family first oved from Ohio to Louisa Co. near the Jamison settlement in 1845, and sixteen years ago came to Morning Sun. Father Strope has long been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and though very quiet no one was more faithful in attendance than he, scarcely ever absent from his seat. He lived an undemonstrative but harmless inoffensive Christian life.

Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. church by the pastor Rev. J.H. Armacost assisted by Rev. C. D. Trumbull. – Morning Sun Herald.
