Long Time Resident Dead

Jesse H. Kerr, 79, a life-long resident of Morning Sun community, died Sunday, February 11 at the Whaley nursing home in Mt. Pleasant where he had been under care for about a month. Mr. Kerr was hospitalized after suffering a severe stroke on November 28 of last year and he had remained in a serious condition since that time.

Jesse Harris Kerr was the son of Richard and Amanda Miller Kerr. He was born near Morning Sun on April 22, 1871. On December 20, 1896 he was married to Mary Stitts, who died on March 1, 1934.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters: Jesse Kerr, Albia; Randall Kerr, Washington; Lloyd Kerr, Davenport; Mrs. Wayne Wilson, South Boston, Virginia; Mrs. Paul Edwards, Morning Sun. One daughter, Mrs. Gladys Wall, is dead.
Also surviving are three brothers, Albert Kerr and Alonzo Kerr both of Wapello; and Ira Kerr, Winfield. There are 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Pierce funeral home with Dr. Will M. Hughes, pastor of the United Presbyterian church in charge Burial was in Elmwood cemetery.
