Deaths – Mrs. Sarah Ann Johnston

On last Friday occurred the death of Mrs. Sarah Ann Johnston at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ella van Vliet near Columbus City. The funeral services were held Sabbath at 11 a.m., from the U. B. church at Columbus city conducted by Rev. Ballard and the body laid to rest in the Columbus City cemetery.

Sarah Ann Richardson was born in Bloomfield county, Penn., on November 24, 1831, and died at her home near Columbus City, Iowa, November 25, 1904, being at the time of her death 73 years and one day of age.

A Little more than two years ago she was persuaded to take treatment for cancer from a doctor in Muscatine the treatment being of such a severe nature that it was almost too much for one of her age. However with the care that she had at all ties from loving hands, she was able to be up and around until twelve weeks before her death. During all the long weary waiting not one word of complaint did she ever utter.

Sarah Ann Richardson was united in marriage to Cornelius Johnston on November 20, 1861. Nine children were born to this union, three dying in infancy, Sadie at the age of four years and Lizzie the little invalid daughter, August 11, 1903, aged 31 years. Four children are left to mourn the loss a living mother, C.C. Johnston, of Springfield, Missouri, Samuel A., Letts, Iowa, Joseph C., North Platt Neb., and Mrs. Ella Van Vliet at whose home she died. All the children were with her until the last dong everything that loving hands could do to relieve her suffering but the end had come and soon the quieting hand of death removed the suffering one from earth and its sorrows.
