Garnet Mills

Garnet Mills, 74, of Nichols (Iowa), died peacefully Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. There was no visitation or service. Arrangements were made by Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction.

Garnet was born October 11, 1930 in Columbus City, Iowa the daughter of William “Bill” H. and Opal Lavery McConahay. On May 26, 1956 Garnet was united in marriage to Kenton Mills in Washington, Iowa.

She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed sewing and had donated many quilts to the Children’s Cancer Ward of the University of Iowa City Hospital and Clinics. She also sewed for family and friends. She liked baking, reading, canning garden fresh vegetables and tending to her roses. She enjoyed staying active and going on outings with Marion and Colleen. She loved her grandchildren and lived to see her great-grandson born. She always put others ahead of herself.

Garnet will be dearly missed by her husband Kent of Nichols (Iowa); her sons, Kirk A. Mills and his wife Natalie and Kim L. Mills, all of Nichols (Iowa); and her daughter, Sally A. Hazen and her husband Charlie, also of Nichols; several grandchildren and one great-grandson, Sara Wagaman and Rocky, Kathy Mills, Kadden Mills, Carl Wagaman, Justin Rogers, Sandi Henderson, Donnie Henderson, Nathan Henderson, Eric Henderson, Robert Yakish, and Jarad Johnson; and her special friend, Ethyl.

She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Lisa Lea Mills.
