Dorothy Steele

Dorothy Ann Steele, age 76, of Washington (Iowa) and a former resident of Wapello (Iowa), died at her home Saturday morning, October 23, 2004. She had been in failing health for some time but death was not expected at this time.

Funeral mass was held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Ed O’Melia officiating. Visitation was Monday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family met with friends in the evening.

Dorothy was born November 1, 1927, the daughter of Cleo and Angela Dunning Shockey. She graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and attended A. I. C. business school in Davenport (Iowa). She married Clifford Steele December 14, 1946, in Washington (Iowa). They were married 54 years.

She is survived by two sons: Ronald and his wife Candace Steele of Hudson and Randy Steele of Washington (Iowa); a daughter, Sara Jaeger of Washington (Iowa); six grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Horak, of Washington (Iowa).

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in May 2001, and an infant son, Clifford Thomas.

In her earlier years, Dorothy was a legal secretary for the Hicklin/Matthews Law Firm in Wapello (Iowa) and later personnel manager for Perfex Mfg., in Washington (Iowa). She retired as a real estate broker/associate in Washington (Iowa).

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

In addition to her deep love for her family, she enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo and bowling. She also enjoyed volunteer work for many years.

A memorial will be established. Memorials may be directed to the family.
