Thomas NewellThomas Herbert “Herb” Newell, 94, of Columbus Junction, died Saturday, September 18, 2004, at the Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction (Iowa). Funeral services were Tuesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction. The Rev. Ralph Draper officiated. Burial was in the Indian Creek Cemetery (Louisa County, IA)
Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.

Thomas “Herb” Newell was born September 26, 1909 in Concord township near Columbus Junction, Iowa, the son of Hugh Robson and Sarah Matilda Shellabarger Newell. On March 3, 1932, he was united in marriage with Mildred Mary Hill in Columbus Junction.
He was a farmer all his life in the Columbus Junction area, and in 1959 he was selected by the “Wallaces Farmer” as an Iowa Master Farmer.
He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Community Church.
Herb will be deeply missed by his wife, Mildred of Columbus Junction (Iowa); one son, Noel Thomas Newell and wife, Wanda of Windsor Heights, Iowa; and daughter, Marianne Hunt and husband, Roger of rural Columbus Junction; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Joy McKillip of Muscatine; his brother, Russell Newell and wife Gloria of Columbus Junction; and his sister, Marjorie Gerdes and husband Jack of Boise, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joe; and a brother, Lewis Newell.
