Oakville - Russell George “Bub” Mellinger, 84, Oakville, died Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Burlington Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Oakville United Methodist Church. Rev. Clarence Burns will officiate. Burial will be in the Edwards Cemetery near Oakville under the direction of Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello.

Bub Melinger was born Dec. 18, 1892 in Louisa County, the son of Frank and Mary Ingersoll Melinger.

He married Grace Swafford Sept. 2, 1923, at Burlington. For 35 years postmaster and a rural mail carrier at Oakville. He was a veteran of World War I having served in the Navy, was a member of the Oakville American Legion and World War I Barracks.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Jane) Hayes of Oakville two grandchildren’ a brother, Perry of Davenport; a sister Mrs. Bessie Reynolds of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by a brother.
