J. G. Gregory Dies at Home in Morning Sun
Resident of This Community All His Life.
J. G. Gregory, 70, passed away at his home in this city Tuesday night, September 30. He had been in failing health for some months, his last sickness dating back ten days.
The last rites were held at the Pierce funeral home this afternoon, conducted by Reverend O. L. Byrns. The singers were Mrs. John Minnis and Mrs. L. Ray Wilson, with Mrs. C. W. Butler as organist. The burial was at Elmwood cemetery, the pallbearers being J. C. McElhinney, P. J. Robertson, Max Curran, Wayne Wilson, George Umphrey and I. A. Burge.
Relatives and friends called here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Russell Courter, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Courter and son Billy, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Courter and Harry Courter, of Rock Island, Illinois, C. M. Marshall of West Burlington, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Owens of Mt. Union, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Nelson and Mrs. Lillie Johnson of Mediapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Edwards of Columbus City.
J. G. Gregory, son of David and Marietta Gregory, was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, February 4, 1865, coming with his parents to Iowa when he was a child one year old. They settled on a farm northeast of Morning Sun.
He was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Marshall on May 20, 1880, and this community has been their home continuously since. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and was the last of his family.
Surviving are the widow, one son, Fred Gregory of Houston, Texas, and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Courter of Rock Island, Illinois; other relatives are four grandsons and two great-grandsons, Bert Gregory of this city, Ronald Courter, Dale Courter, Harry Courter, Billy Courter and Dale Courter of Rock Island; also several nieces.
