Donald Strawhacker
Donald “Woody” David Strawhacker, 78, of Burlington (Iowa) and formerly of Oakville (Iowa), died Thursday, February 19, 2004 at his home. He was born February 14, 1926, in Oakville (Iowa) to Mark C. and Lucille Abbott Strawhacker. He graduated from Oakville High School in 1944. He had been married to Doris Hartman Reiman.
He farmed for many years in the Oakville area and also drove semi trailer trucks.
He regularly attended Asbury United Methodist Church in Burlington. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie No. 150 where hew as currently serving his seventh year as Arie President. He previously was an honorary state vice president. He enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes and was an avid Cubs fan. He also enjoyed dancing and traveling.
He is survived by his companion, Maxine Warner of Burlington (Iowa); a son, Craig D. Strawhacker of Oakville (Iowa); a daughter, Brenda Strawhacker of Citrus Springs, Florida; a step-son Wendell Reiman of Burlington; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; six step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lois Foor of Wapello (Iowa), Joann Wehner of Independence (Iowa ?), Jean Hughes of Arab, Alabama, and Marilyn Mintun of Burlington (Iowa); and two brothers, Russell Strawhacker of Branson, Missouri, and Marion Strawhacker of Fort Madison, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one step-daughter and three brothers.
The funeral service was Monday in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Richard Purcell officiating. Interment followed in Edwards Cemetery, Oakville (Louisa County, Iowa).
Visitation was Sunday in Lunning Chapel where the family met with friends in the evening.
A memorial for the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes and Heart Fund was established.
