Wilma Marie Willians, 83, formerly of Wapello, died Sunday evening, April 6, 2008, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, IA. She was born April 27, 1924 in Wapello, the daughter of Leroy and Frances W. Murray Williams. She attended Wapello School and was raised by her mother and step-father, Rex “Mike” Mackey.
She married Robert N. Williams on December 24, 1941 at Kahoka, Missouri. They were later divorced.
Wilma was employed at the IAAP{P from 1948 – 1970. She lived and worked for a number of years in Ft. Madison before returning to live in Wapello. She enjoyed gardening, music and dancing.
She was diagnosed with cancer in 1993 and dealt valiantly with the disease.
After suffering a stroke it became necessary for Wilma to enter a nursing home. She had called Blair House (formerly Rose Bush Garden) at Burlington home for the last six years. While there she became an avid Bingo player. She enjoyed visiting with everyone. Her family was especially dear to her and she appreciated all their calls and visits. She is survived by her two children, Robert and Betty Williams of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Pamela and Don Horner of Hiawatha, Iowa; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
As requested by Wilma, her body was cremated.
A graveside service for Wilma Williams was held at 2 pm Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the Wapello Cemetery officiated by Rev. Scott Smith.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund was established for the benefit of the American Cancer Society.
The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello provided the care and arrangements for Wilma Williams.
