Archie Eugene ‘Gene’ Stotts, age 75, of Morning Sun, died Saturday morning, November 15, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The son of Archie O. and Cecil Menafee Stotts, he was born on June 9, 1939 in Mt. Union. Gene married Bonnie L. Hester on June 27, 1964 at the First Christian Church in Burlington. They were married for fifty years in 2014.

He was a custodian for 24 years at the Morning Sun School. He enjoyed watching westerns on TV, building things with his erector set, and tinkering in the garage.

His survivors include his wife, Bonnie; two daughters, Tammy & Darren Wilson of Danville and Kris & John Dale of Morning Sun; two grandsons, Josh & Randi Dale and John, Jr & Kim Dale; two great-grandson, Nate and Andrew; one great-granddaughter, Kaitlin; two brothers, Raymond & Edna Stotts and Earl & Peggy Stotts; one sister, Mary Snyder; his step-mother, Esther Stotts; a step-sister, Ilene Howell; several nieces and nephews; and a sister & brother-in-law, Loren & Shirley Watson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harold, Jimmy and Bobby.

The funeral service for Gene Stotts was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Yarmouth with Pastor Jeff Duffy officiating. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun.

Visitation was Monday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial fund was established for the benefit of the First Baptist Church in Yarmouth.
