Kathryn Alice ‘Kathy’ Ryan, 66, of West Branch, died Saturday morning, November 15, 2014, at her home. The daughter of Robert T. and Phyllis F. Fairchild Carlson, she was born on October 24, 1948 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Edina High School and received her RN degree from Kirkwood Community College in 1989. She married Dennis Miller. On October 25, 1991, she married Roy Ryan in West Branch.

Kathy worked as an RN at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in surgical recovery, maternity, NICU, and the call center.

She enjoyed knitting, gardening and camping. She was a member of the Lutheran Church in West Branch.

Her family includes her husband, Roy; four children, Andrew & Rebecca Miller of Cedar Rapids, Shelly & John Miller/Wells of Tucson, Arizona, David & Laura Miller of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Karen & Eric Watson of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren; two brothers, Stephen Carlson of Edina, Minnesota and Robert & Patricia Carlson of Henderson, Nevada; and her mother-in-law, Mary Ann Ryan of Wapello.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, Wayne Ryan.

The funeral service for Kathy Ryan was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Wapello. Pastor Chad Whaley of West Branch officiated. Burial followed in the Wapello Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial fund was established for the benefit of the Iowa City American Legion.
