Charles Eugene Pencil, 86, of Letts, formerly of Washington, Iowa, went home to the Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2014, in Letts, at his daughter’s home.
Visitation was Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Jones & Eden funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating.
Interment with military honors was conducted by the Washington American Legion Post 29 at the Friends Cemetery in Pleasant Plain, Iowa.

Charles Eugene Pencil was born July 18, 1928, near Brighton, Iowa, the son of Everett and Edith Mae (Coffin) Pencil. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Kallaus on June 29, 1953, and later divorced.
Charles served honorably in the United States Army from 1950 until 1957. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Services Medal and the National Defense Medal.
Charles worked as an auto mechanic for 35 years and Service Manager for Sears and Montgomery Ward companies, retiring in 1982. Charles enjoyed Biblical readings and staying busy.
Charles is survived by six children; Melinda Spies and husband Harry of Walcott; Marcia Williams and husband Dan of Norwalk; Myra Pencil of Letts; Michael Pencil and wife Donna of Davenport; Mark Pencil of Davenport; Mitchell Pencil and wife Allyson of Davenport; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his ex-wife; one daughter, Mary Ann Weston in 1994; and one brother, Don Pencil.
