Joseph Meeker

LETTS, Iowa - Joseph W. Meeker, 81, rural Letts, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, 2907 Mulberry Ave. The Rev. Jerry Foote will officiate. Casket bearers are Terry Townsley, Jerry Lamp, Sonny O'Toole, Tim Nichols, Steve Schomberg and Bill Brown. Burial will be at Cranston Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at the funeral home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the Meeker family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Mr. Meeker was born March 19, 1923, on the farm in Seventy-Six Township, the son of W. Ernest and Effie (Shires) Meeker.

He attended the Mulford Evangelical Church and was a member of the American Hereford Association. His pride and joy was his herd of registered Hereford Cattle.

He lived and farmed in Seventy-Six Township his entire life.

Survivors include two sisters, Geraldine Schomberg of Letts and Martha Jean Nichols of West Liberty; two nephews, Steve Schomberg and wife Janie of Urbana, Ill., and Tim Nichols and wife Kristin of Nichols; three nieces, Judy Carlson and husband Carl of Battle Lake, Minn., Nancy Abney and husband Glenn of Atlanta, Ga., and Carolyn Probst and husband Tom of West Liberty.

He was preceded in death by his parents
