Marilyn Brodie, 76, of Muscatine, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at home. A funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. at the Newman Center in Iowa City, with the Reverend Ed Fitzpatrick officiating. Visitation took place one hour before the service. A time of food and fellowship followed the funeral. Burial took place on Monday, July 22 in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Muscatine.

Marilyn was born on December 11, 1936, in Muscatine, the daughter of Howard D. and Marie F. Plessey Carl. She married Edwin T. Brodie on December 18, 1971, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1982.

She was a teacher for over 20 years and was involved with the Newman Center, Faith Formation Education, Music Ministry, and Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry.

Those left to honor her memory include one son, Kevin Brodie of State College, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Bonnie Gabriel and husband, Jim, of Columbus Junction, and Maris Cooke of Streamwood, Illinois; four grandchildren, Christopher Gabriel, Benjamin Gabriel, Andrew Brodie, and Lindsey Brodie; three great-grandchildren, Grant, Blake, and Reese Gabriel; one sister, Betty Edenson of Bettendorf; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Robert L. and William E. Carl; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Carl in infancy and Patricia Anne Carroll.
