Sam Finley, 45, or rural Wapello died at his home on Saturday, October 8, 2011. The son of Delbert and Betty Marlette Finley, he was born on June 5, 1966 in Burlington.

Sam attended school in Wapello and later received his GED. He worked as a farmhand with his brother, John, and other farmers. He was a collector including soda bottles. He enjoyed woodworking and making things for his nieces and nephews.

Family surviving includes his four brothers, Delbert Jr. and Beverly Finley of Wapello, William and Grace Finley of Wapello, John Finley of Wapello, and Harry and Jennifer Finley of Columbus Junction; his sister, Susan and David Yakle of Wapello; ten nieces and nephews; and fourteen great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Kingrey.

A graveside funeral was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2011, at the Edwards Cemetery, rural Oakville, with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating.

The family met with friends Tuesday evenings at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

A memorial fund was established.
