Thomas “Joe” Benton Holcomb Jr., 75, of Nichols, passed away March 19, 2013, in Calhoun, Georgia on his way home from Florida. Funeral services for Joe were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Reverend Don Hodson officiated. Burial was in the Nichols Cemetery. Casket bearers were Gary Holcomb, Alan Holcomb, Jane Holcomb, Brian Egel, Dick Chown, Mark Elder and Jim Wasson. Honorary casket bearers were Virgil Mills, Mike Mills, Alan Burr, Frank Holcomb, John Green and Kenneth Wagner. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship was held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation for Joe was held on Monday, March 25, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree with a 8:00 p.m. Masonic Service. Thomas “Joe” Benton Holcomb Jr. was born on July 30, 1937, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Thomas Benton and Frances Elizabeth (Baker) Holcomb. He was a 1956 graduate of Nichols High School and joined the National Guard for nine years. On June 15, 1958, Joe was united in marriage to Ramona Marie Mills in Nichols, Iowa. He was a farmer, and loved what he did. Joe was a member of the Nichols United Methodist Church, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Columbus City Masonic Lodge 107, Shriners International, and the Loyal Order of the Moose – Muscatine Lodge 388. Joe enjoyed collecting Case tractors, fishing with his wife, vacationing in Florida during the winter months, gater trolling and visiting with friends and family. Joe did not know a stranger.

Joe will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Ramona; three children, Gary Thomas Holcomb and his special friend, Amy Bielser, of Nichols, Alan Charles Holcomb, of Nichols, and his special friend, Sue Gable, of Waverly, and Jane Marie Holcomb of Nichols; two foster children, Patricia Green and her husband, John, of Muscatine, and Bernita Kracht and her husband, Ivan, of Muscatine; seven grandchildren, Hope Devoe and her husband, Lonnie, Nicole Holcomb and her special friend, Brian, Nikita Bielser, Greg Green and his wife, Angie, Matt Green and his wife, Kim, Joe Ryan and his wife, Lisa, and Regina Askam and her husband, Brad; nine great-grandchildren, Lane Devore, J.T. Green, Parker Green, Ethan Green, Gavin Green, Logan Ryan, Alyssa Ryan, Ryan Askam and Kiersten Askam; one brother, Frank Holcomb and his wife, Yvonne, of Lone Tree; and one sister, Delpha Wagner and her husband, Kenneth, of Blue Grass.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents.
