Funeral services have been scheduled for Thursday at 1:00 p.m. for 81 year old, Lela Willet at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery. Casket bearers are Roy Willet, Jr., Gary Willet, Tony Mendez, James Cochran, Brian Havemann and Robert L. Moore. Rev. Ed Meyers will officiate at the service and Donna Belle Hughes will be organist. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home where a memorial has been established. Mrs. Willet died Sunday evening, December 15, 1991, after an extended illness at the Mediapolis Care Center, Mediapolis, Iowa.
Lela Ruby Staats was born on October 21, 1910, in Wapello, Iowa to Edward and Valley Staats. She married Harlan Willet on October 10, 1928, in Rock Island, Illinois. She lived most of her life in Muscatine area and formerly lived in Columbus Junction.
Survivors include eight sons: Charles, California, Glen, Memphis,Missouri; Roy, East Moline, David, Davenport, Robert, Memphis, Missouri;Michael, Muscatine, William, Muscatine, Harlan Jr., Muscatine; five daughters: Ruth Heath, California, Helen Davis, Muscatine, Joyce Buras, Mediapolis. Mrs. Merle (Carlene) Mendez, Springfield, Ohio. There are many gradchildren and great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Lela was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Edward and Betty at birth; her husband in 1973 and four brothers.
