Jean Elizabeth Bieri, 89, of Iowa City, died on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Windmill Manor, Coralville.

Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Grandview Cemetery. Reverend Darryl Erickson of the Grandview Community Bible Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Grandview Community Bible Church. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com

Jean was born on April 23, 1923, in rural Grandview, the daughter of Fred E. and Anna Marie Beik Wier.

She attended and graduated from Grandview Consolidated School in 1940, then attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant where she was a member of Alpha Zi Delta Sorority and later attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Davenport where she received her RN in 1946.

She married H. Richard Bieri on December 26, 1946, at the St. John’s Methodist Church in Davenport.

She worked at Muscatine General Hospital as a RN for several years, before adopting and raising her two children.

She was a member of the Grandview Community Bible Church, where she served as organist for several years. She was also a member of the Grandview Federated Club and the American Red Cross.

Jean and her husband moved to Muscatine after his retirement from farming. They moved to Coralville in 2000, and later to Iowa City.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, H. Richard Bieri of Iowa City; one son, Fred Bieri and wife, Henni, of North Liberty; one daughter, Lisa Bieri Toyne and her husband, Mike, of Muscatine; five grandchildren, Michael Richard Toyne, Cristi Bieri, Ami Bieri, Cori Bieri, and Mandi Bieri; four step grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a special cousin who she loved like a daughter, Cindy Stineman Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
