Farrel E. Rees, 80, of rural Columbus Junction, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Mercy Hospital of Iowa City.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Burial will be in the Cambrian Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14th from 4:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home. Following the committal services there will be a time of food and fellowship at the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post 100. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Farrel’s name. Farrel Elias Rees was born September 30, 1932 in Columbus Junction, Iowa, the son of John H. and Jennie P. (Williams) Rees.

Farrel was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1953-1955 overseas in Germany. On July 28, 1963 he was united in marriage to Sherry Anne Watson in Richland, Iowa. Farrel was a farmer all of his life and a life-long resident of Louisa County, Iowa. He was also a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church, the Farm Bureau and a 50-year member of the Louisa County Fair Board. He enjoyed farming, attending the Louisa County Fair, watching the races on Friday nights at the fairgrounds, NASCAR, college football and basketball and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Farrel will be dearly missed by his children, Brenda Frost and her husband, Steve of St. Louis, Missouri and Duane Rees of Columbus Junction; 4 grandchildren, Brooke and Jacob Frost and Emily and Kelly Rees; his sisters, Marie Greene of Washington, Iowa, Irene Schmidt of Dewitt and Gladys Davis and her husband, Roger of Winfield; and special friend, Betty
