Mary E. Archibald

Mary Elizabeth Archibald, 92, of Wapello, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003, at the Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center. The daughter of Henry and Hazel Umphrey Schwob, she was born July 4, 1911, in Wapello and graduated from Wapello High School. She married Ronald D. Archibald on January 17, 1942, at Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2003.

She worked for the telephone company during the World War II years, later for the Wapello School District and then for the Credit Bureau at the Louisa County Courthouse.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Wapello. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, working crossword puzzles, visiting with friends and traveling to visit with family. She was a great cook.

Survivors include her daughter, Ronni Kay Davis of Wichita Falls, Texas; a granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Davis of Wichita Falls; a grandson, Brady Christopher Davis of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Robert Schwob and Richard Schwob, both of Wapello; a sister, Virginia Stone, Wapello’ and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Harlan Schwob, Walter “Pete” Schwob and Thomas Schwob; and a sister, Barbara Sheridan.

A memorial service was held Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Wapello with the Rev. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Private burial in the Wapello Cemetery of her cremated remains preceded the service.

A memorial fund was established for the benefit of First Presbyterian Church, Wapello.

The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello provided the care and arrangements.
