BURLINGTON, Iowa - Nellie May Venard, 91, Burlington, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at her home.

Private family graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Wapello Cemetery. The Rev. Vicki Engelmann will officiate.

There will be no visitation. The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Venard was born Feb. 18, 1912, in Louisa County, the daughter of Joseph S. and Sarah J. Wheeler Brown. She married Bernard M. Venard Jan. 4, 1938, in Bettendorf. He preceded her in death May 8, 1994.

She was a homemaker and had worked as a nurse aide at Mercy Hospital. She had provided other patient care, both in and out of her home.

She loved to take care of her garden and other yard beautification. She was known as a historian.

Survivors include three daughters, Darlene Venard, Mary Watson and Sue Martin, all of Burlington; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dora Timmerman of Bettendorf; several nieces; and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Elias Brown, Bert Brown and Guy Brown; a sister, Cora Bowdre; a niece, Delores Miller; and a nephew, Russell Timmerman.
