Sophia M. Corbin 1843-1914

Sophia M. Corbin was born in Bedford county, Pennsylvania, January 31st, 1843, and died at her home, 210 Phillips street, July 19, 1914, after an illness of but three days.

She was a daughter of Levi and Margaret Corbin and was united in marriage to Eliza W. Connor, March 20th, 1861, who departed this life October 30, 1896.

To this union was born three children, one son and two daughters, William Wells, Elma Ilia, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Irena Estella Gouse, who still survives her. She is survived by nine grandchildren, they being Lysle Gonse of Kingston, Ia., Ilia Foster, of Bloomington township; Mary, Sophia, Wells, Lela, Will, Bert and Lillian Gonse of 212 Phillips street, of this city. She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Margaret Scott of Chicago Ill.; Mrs. Mary Chatfield, of Fruitland; David Corbin of Fruitland, and James Corbin of Muscatine, Iowa.

On July 12, 1911, she was united in marriage to J.C. Farver of Wapello, Ia., who preceeded her in death December 8th, 1912.

In the year of 1850 she came to Muscatine with her parents and she has resided in Louisa and Muscatine counties the remainder of her life.

In early life she united with the U.B. church at Muscatine, Ia., and upon moving to Grandview, Ia., she changed her membership to the Presbyterian church and was a faithful member of that church until it consolidated with the Congregational church, in which she held a membership until her death.
