Rowland Rees, 82, of rural Columbus Junction, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the Colonial Manor Care Center of Columbus Junction.

Funeral services were Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Salem Welsh Church of rural Columbus Junction.

Casket bearers were Austin Vincent, Emery Davis, Skyler Davis, Dallas Davis, Randy Vincent and Josh Wheeler. Burial was in the Cambrian Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday, September 14th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the Salem Welsh Church, the Heart Association and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Rowland’s name. Rowland Edward Rees was born February 9, 1930 in rural Columbus Junction, the son of Henry and Lena (Evans) Rees. He graduated from Cotter High School in 1947 and then from DeForest Technical School in Chicago. He worked for radio stations in Roanoke, VA and Burlington, IA. He was also a United States Army veteran, serving from 1951-1953. Returning from his military service Rowland joined his family in farming. On April 9, 1955 he was united in marriage to Donna Cave in the Prairie Flower Church of rural Washington, Iowa. Rowland was a farmer his whole life and a member of the Salem Welsh Church. He was a member of the HAM Radio Club of Washington, the Farm Bureau and the Soybean Association. He loved fixing things, especially electronics and taking gas engines to the Old Threshers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with his family.

Rowland will be dearly missed by his wife, Donna of rural Columbus Junction; his daughters, Sharon Rees of Iowa City, Kay (Dallas) Davis of rural Crawfordsville and Dee Anne (Randy) Vincent of Conesville; six grandchildren, Megan (Josh) Wheeler, Emery Davis, Skyler Davis, Austin Vincent, Kelsey Vincent and Morgan Vincent; two great-grandchildren, Katrina and Isabella Wheeler; and his brother, Delbert (Sandra) Rees of rural Columbus Junction.

Rowland was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Sherolyn; his son, David Rees; granddaughter, Lena (Davis) Koehn; and infant great-granddaughters, Rehanna and Breanna Wheeler.
