Roger James Heitmeier

Roger James Heitmeier, age 82 of Morning Sun, died Friday, February 3, 2012 at the Morning Sun Care Center. The son of Earl and Robert (Lane) Heitmeier, he was born June 6, 1929 at Ionia, Michigan. On November 15, 1952, he married Shirley Pontzius at Morning Sun. He was a 1947 graduate of the Morning Sun High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54. He worked at Phillips 66 Service, Massey Ferguson and retired from Hawkeye Concrete December 31, 1991.

He was of the Methodist Faith and was a member of the Hays-Scott American Legion Post in Morning sun.

He had been a little league coach, enjoyed playing cards, camping, taking pictures, and being with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Morning Sun; one son, Royce and Polly Heitmeier of West Burlington; two daughters, Zelda and Reno Musser of Muscatine and Arlene and Jerry Sterner of Morning Sun; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Ryan.

Cremation has been accorded and there will be no visitation.

Memorial services were held Monday, February 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Morning Sun with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating; inurnment was in Elmwood Cemetery with graveside military rites by Hays-Scott American Legion.

A time of lunch and fellowship followed at the United Methodist Church in Morning Sun.

A general memorial was established in his name.

Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun was in charge of the arrangements.
