Doris E. (Bruner) Ketchum

Doris E. (Bruner) Ketchum, 87, of Downing, Missouri passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

The daughter of Robert Franklin and Ivalee (Drake) Bruner, Doris was born on January 13, 1925 in rural Schuyler County, Missouri.

She attended Downing Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1943.

She was united in marriage to Max Edward Ketchum on November 25, 1943 in Lancaster, Missouri and to this union four children were born; Edward Franklin, Larry Max, Anna Lee, and Doris Ellen.

Survivors include her children, Eddie Ketchum of Morning Sun, Ann Thomas and husband, John, of Morning Sun; and Ellen Partin and husband, Ronnie, of Kirksville, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Tammy Rasmussen and husband Carl, Tim Ketchum, Lori Harris and husband Doug, Angela Singleton and husband Shad, Chris Thomas and wife Allisen, Ranae Bryant and husband Jim and Darren Claybrook; five step-grandchildren, Crystal Goodman, John Claybrook and wife Tonya, Stacy Farley and husband Rob, Shannon Partin and wife Julie and Cameron Partin and wife, Kelli; 13 great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Robert Bruner of Downing, Missouri, Ardell Dellinger of Greenfield, Iowa; Max Bruner and wife, Janet of Memphis, Missouri; and sister-in-law Margaret Bruner of Downing, Missouri, several nieces and nephews and other family members.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Max on September 11, 1992; one son, Larry Max Ketchum on November 17, 1964; one son-in-law, David Claybrook; one daughter-in-law, Leandra Ketchum; brothers Charles and Oren Bruner; sisters Wilma Bruner in infancy and Leola Comstock; sisters-in-law Pauline and Bethene Bruner and step-grandson-in-law, Paul Goodman and his son, Daniel Goodman.

Doris and Max were engaged in farming in Downing, Missouri and later moved to Morning Sun for 12 years. Following retirement from Morning Sun, Max and Doris returned to Downing, Missouri.

Doris was an active member of the Coffey Christian Church and later attended the Downing Christian Church.

She was a teacher’s aide and cook for the Schuyler R-1 School System for a number of years. Doris’s life was devoted to her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren were the twinkle in her eye and she loved spending time with them.

Memorial services were held Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Music was provided by organist Betty Anderson playing special selections “In the Garden,” “I know Who Holds Tomorrow” and the congregation singing of “How Great Thou Art”.

Honorary pallbearers were Patty Baker, Darlene Gunnell, Marilyn Barnhart, Ann Alexander, Betty Herbert, Debra Ferdig, Barbara Smith, Marilyn Blessing, Maudie Oliver, Margaret Scurlock, Amy Ahrens, Tracy Carroll, Barbara Blessing and Darlene Humphrey.

Visitation was one hour prior to the funeral services from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorials were established for the Coffey Cemetery or Downing Christian Church.

Burial of the cremains was in the Coffey Cemetery.
