Patrick Pealer, 69, of Burlington, died in Morning Sun, Iowa on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 2:15 a.m.

Born March 17, 1941 in Wapello, Iowa, he was the son of Champ Clark and Sarah Elizabeth Schultz Pealer. He married Pamela Jo Tolan on November 22, 1963 in Biggsville, Illinois.

Patrick was a 1959 graduate of Burlington High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier.

After retirement from the Post Office, Patrick loved spending time at his cabin on Spring Lake. He enjoyed roller skating with his favorite granddaughter. He was the Great Garbonzo Clown at 34 Raceway for many years.

He was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 11 from 1979 to 1984. He was an assistant leader for the Scouts from 1984 until 1996 at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ. He was also a Cub Scout leader at Corse School. He received the District Award of Merit in 1979.

He was thoughtful, outgoing and always enjoyed the company of others. He loved to read and work on craft projects. Patrick held every office at the local VFW Club and was secretary-treasurer for the National Association of Letter Carriers.

He was of the Presbyterian faith.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela; two sons, Mark Pealer of Burlington, Iowa, and Michael (Barb) Pealer of Morning Sun, Iowa; two grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Pealer of Paris, California and David Pealer of Pella, Iowa; and one sister, Carolyn Tournear of Quincy, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, and two brothers, Robert and Allen.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in Prugh’s Chapel with Military Rites by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard to be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa at a later date. Cremation has been accorded.

Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and VFW Post 10102.
