Charles Eugene ‘Chuck’ Newcomb, 70, of Morning Sun, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, October 27, 2010, at his residence. The son of Charles Thomas and Mildred Ellen Viner Newcomb, he was born February 15, 1940 in Letts, Iowa.

He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1959. He married Harriet Hutcheson on January 11, 1961 at Morning Sun. Charles was a welder and had worked at HOH Industries in Muscatine with Pipemaster and Hawkeye Concrete in Morning Sun and Mediapolis.

He enjoyed woodworking and his grandsons.

He is survived by two sons, Tony and Sherry Newcomb and David and Brenda Newcomb, both of Mediapolis; two daughters, Wendi and Mark Lemmon of New London and Stacie and Brent Venghaus of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandsons, Jeremy Shafer, Josh, Justin, and Jordon Newcomb, Landon, Nathan and Matthew Lemmon, and Zachary and Zerek Venghaus; his former wife, Harriet Newcomb of Morning Sun; two sisters, Hazel and Earl Milbourn of Muscatine and Harriet and Ray Atkins of Michigan; and a brother, Tom and Mary Newcomb of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret.

He was cremated.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 30, at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun with the Rev. Brad Hansen officiating. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun.

A memorial fund was established.
