REED, Bertha Verlee

Bertha Verlee Reed, 88 years, 7 months, 22 days, of Muscatine, Iowa died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Unity Hospital in Muscatine.

Pastor John Brown of the Fruitland Baptist Church officiated at 10:30 a.m. services, Tuesday, July 3, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. Burial followed in the Grandview Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Reed was born November 8, 1918, in Grandview, Iowa the daughter of George and Bertha (Browning) Ashby. She graduated from Grandview High School in 1937 as the valedictorian of her class. She married Arnold Reed on August 17, 1939 in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in 1997.

She was a member of the Fruitland Baptist Church.

She enjoyed working in her flower garden and spending time with her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren. Survivors include two sons Clarence (Lena) Reed of Muscatine and Robert (Vicky) Reed of Lawrence, Kansas; three daughters, Georgia Van Auken of Des Moines, Nancy (Clifford) Dodd of Davenport and Debbie (James) Storm of Muscatine; eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Freda Shellabarger of Lincoln, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her huysband, her parents, a son Kenny Reed; and two sisters, Geneva McCleary and Mary Esther Ashby.
