Shirley May Haight

Shirley Mae Haight, age 81, of Mediapolis, Iowa, died Friday evening, October 1, 2010, at the Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab in Mediapolis. The daughter of George and Lula Wolverton Bryant, she was born on August 16, 1929, at Morning Sun. She married Ronald Haight on December 27, 1947 in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2006.

Shirley graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1946. She was of the Methodist faith. She had worked at Winegard’s in Burlington. Shirley enjoyed cooking and collecting cookbooks. She was known for her quality crocheting. She had enjoyed bowling.

Her family surviving includes two daughters, Connie & Mike Hinson of Mediapolis and Christine ‘Cricket’ and Kip Jones of West Lafayette, Indiana; a son, John Haight of Mediapolis; four grandsons, Jason Hinson, Bill Hinson, Andy Hinson, and Geoffrey Clark; a granddaughter, Joellyn Hall; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene Dean of Morning Sun and Maxine Hobbs of Mediapolis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ron; a great grandson, five brothers, Max, Walt, Cecil, Orville, and Kenneth; and a sister, Irene Carpenter.

The funeral ceremony for Shirley Haight will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis with Pastor Dan Baker officiating.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Monday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family will meet friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Cremation will follow the services.

A memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab and the Great River Hospice.
