Roger “Rod” Moser

Roger Jacob ‘Rod’ Moser, 89, of Wapello, Iowa, died Sunday morning March 28, 2010, at his home. The son of Philip and Bertha Massner Moser, he was born on February 3, 1921, at Hancock, Minnesota. He married May Miller on March 28, 1947, at Pulaski, Iowa. She died on February 28, 1975. He married Naomi Sutter Heimer on November 12, 1978 at Taylor, Missouri. She died on March 4, 1994. Rod married Ruth Butikofer Cottrell on June 19, 1995 at Quincy, Illinois.

Rod was a farmer having farmed in the Morning Sun / Wapello area until 2004. He had lived for a few years in Taylor, Missouri. He thoroughly enjoyed farming and had been active with 4-H and the FFA. He also enjoyed, in the later years, the winters in Florida including fishing there. Rod was a member of the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Wapello and had been a Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed the several mission trips he was involved with.

His surviving family includes his wife, Ruth; three children, Andy and Diane Moser of Kouts, Indiana, Pam and Mark Hodel of Laos, and Larry and Bev Moser of Wapello; ten stepchildren, Stan Heimer, Debbie Barkley, Kent Heimer, Rodney Heimer, Mary Beth Hastings, Curtis Heimer, Bill Cottrell, Susanne Logan, Sandra Cramer and Tom Cottrell; forty-seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Beulah Ehnle of Princeville, Illinois, Arnie Moser of Greenville, South Carolina, Marvel Knobloch of Tremont, Illinois, and Jeanie Haerr of Cape Coral, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Mary and Naomi; a 7 year old son Teddy in 1958; a step-son Bobby Heimer; two sisters, Verle Funk and Ruth Graham; and two brothers, Glen and an infant, Lyle.

The funeral service for Roger ‘Rod’ Moser will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Wapello with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating. Burial will follow in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, rural Oakville.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Solid Rock Baptist Church and the Great River Hospice.
