Ralph Irvin ‘Brownie’ Brown, age 95, a lifelong resident of Oakville until the flood of 2008, becoming a resident of Sunnybrook assisted living in Burlington, died Saturday evening, July 16, 2011, at his residence. The son of Irvin Ellsworth and Harriet Luella Moon Brown, he was born on the family farm home outside of Oakville on December 26, 1915. He married Esther Elizabeth Stoller on June 1, 1937 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Ralph graduated from Oakville High School in 1934 and attended junior college in LaGrange, Illinois for one year. He farmed all his life continuing to be involved with the family farm even after the flood.

He was a very active lifelong member of the United Methodist Church at Oakville having been a Sunday School teacher and served on most of the church offices. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau. He was very active in the Boy Scouts having been a Leader and a Scout Master and served as the Council President. He took his Scouts to the National Jamboree in 1957. Ralph loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He played baseball during high school and several years beyond as semipro.

His family includes wife Esther, three children, Robert ‘Bob’ & Mary Brown of Oakville, Wayne & Jo Brown of Stanwood, and Barbara & Wayne Caparoon of Dallas City, Illinois; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one brother.

The funeral ceremony for Ralph Brown will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Pastor David Behlman officiating. Burial will follow at the Edwards Cemetery at Oakville. The family and friends will gather for a lunch following the burial in Oakville.

Friends may call from 1:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

The family has set a General Memorial Fund for Ralph Brown.
