Tillie Gerst

Tillie Emma Gerst, 90, of Mediapolis, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab Center in Mediapolis.

Born Sept. 22, 1913, in Oakville, she was the daughter of Richard Otto and Linda Gruetter Gerst.

Miss Gerst taught school for 26 years at Villa Park Elementary School in Lombard, Ill.

She moved with her family to Taylor, Mo., in 1918, where she attended Willow Bend School through the eighth grade. In 1942, she moved to Chicago, where she earned her high school degree and received her teaching certificate from Northwestern University. After spending her retirement in Phoenix, she returned to Iowa in 1999 to live at Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Survivors include two sisters–in–law, Hilda and Elva Gerst; and many nieces, nephews; great–nieces and great–nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, three brothers and one infant sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 7:30 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Miss Gerst will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Apostolic Christian Church in Oakville, with church ministers officiating. Burial will be in Oakville Apostolic Christian Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Apostolic Christian Church World Relief Fund.
