Ralph L. Solomon

Ralph LeRoy Solomon, 93, of Conesville, died Wednesday, October 22, 2003, at the Lone Tree Health Care Center in Lone Tree.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction, with the Rev. Betsey Neipert officiating. Pallbearers were Rex Solomon, Joe Solomon, David Solomon, Wayne Davis, Brian Davis and Shane Leach. Honorary bearers were all of Ralph’s Conesville Friends. Burial was at the Conesville Cemetery.

Visitation was 3-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established at the funeral home.

Mr. Solomon was born August 30, 1910, in Gladwin, the son of Jessie and Cora May Carr Solomon. He married Thelma Anthony on December 14, 1932, in Rock Island, Illinois.

He farmed and drove a truck for his brothers’ business for many years. He was also employed at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for several years.

He enjoyed his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Willard Solomon of Conesville and Darrel Solomon and wife Betty Ann of Muscatine; three daughters, Evelyn Reed and husband Paul of Conesville, Delores Davis and husband Emery of Davenport and Jessie Johnson and husband Robert of Sierra Vista, Arizona; two sisters, Elsie Frauenholtz and husband Frank of Iowa City and Maxine Ferguson of Owasso, Oklahoma; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Lyle Dean; four grandchildren; one brother, Raymond “Barney” Solomon; and two sisters, Edna McIntyre and Elva Cushatt.
