Maggie Cassabaum Cutkomp

Mrs. William T. Cutkomp, a former highly esteemed resident of Columbus City and Columbus Junction, who has lived for some years at Ft. Morgan and Colorado Springs, Colorado, died Tuesday, December 31, 1957, at a rest home in Colorado Springs where she had been cared for the past few months.

The former Maggie Cassabaum was born in Ringgold County, Iowa April 4, 1879, the daughter of Henry and Isabelle Gentzler Cassabaum.

She was united in marriage to William T. Cutkomp, February 21, 1899 and for many years he worked as a blacksmith in this community. He died in August 1941.

She is survived by four sons, Herbert of Muscatine; Neil of Donnellson, Iowa; Cyril and Clarence Cutkomp of Colorado Springs and by two daughters, Mrs. Homer (Madolla) Whetstine of Longmont, Colorado and Mrs. Richard (Francas) Frasor of Denver, Colorado. Also by three brothers, Fred Cassabaum of Winfield; William Cassabaum of Fort Pierce, Florida and Charles Cassabaum of Granville, Illinois and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Erving of Philadelpha, Pennsylvania and six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

One daughter, Mrs, Paul (Geneviave) Straight died about five years ago in Colorado.

Her interests were completely in her family, home, neighbors and friends. She was know as a good daughter, sister, mother, neighbor and as a good friend. She will be sadly missed by many people but her loved ones could not wish her to repeat her year of illness in which her joy of living was missing.

The body was brought to the Stacy Funeral Home in this city where services were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon and were conducted by the Rev. Geo. C. Pennington.

Music was by Mrs. B.O. Roundy with a vocal solo by Mrs. Robert Fulton who sang "The Old Rugged Cross".

The foral tributes were unusually profuse and beautiful.

Casket bearers were Chas. E. Hanft, F. C. Spaethe, Harold Duncan, Kenneth Duncan, Fay Greens and Jack Mewhirter.

Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery.

The body was accompanied here by the two daughters, Mrs. Richard Fraser and Mrs. Homer Whetstine Friday morning on the train while the sons, Clarence Cutkomp and Brother, Cyril and wife and their son, William drove through. The daughters returned home from Iowa City Saturday evening while Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cutkomp left via auto Sunday morning.
