Glenn Douglas Beard, age 93, of Burlington formerly of Mediapolis and Grandview, died Saturday evening, November 26, 2011, at the Klein Center in Burlington.

He was born on October 20, 1918, in rural Wapello, the son of Myron Douglas and Nannie Rebecca Hopkins Beard. He attended school at Newport and Wapello High School. On February 25, 1937, he married Treva Marie Stone in Gladstone, Illinois.

Glenn farmed in the Mediapolis area for 18 years and then moved to the town of Mediapolis and worked in the grocery store. In 1957, he and Treva purchased the Grandview Market in Grandview. They operated it for 12 years. He then worked for Beard Grain Co. After retiring and living in Grandview for 50 years, they moved to Burlington’s Rosebush Gardens Assisted Living.

Glenn enjoyed woodworking. Some of his work was for the Louisa County Historical Society of which he was a Board Member for many years. He was a member of the Grandview Community Bible Church.

His family surviving include his wife, Treva; five children, Ray and Marie Beard of Northville, Michigan, Shirley and Kay Harsin of Knoxville, Marvin and Linda Beard of Davenport, Betty Eversmeyer of Burlington, and Bill and Sharon Beard of Columbus Junction; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 7 great-greatgrandchildren; and a niece, Joanne Hartman of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, a grandson, a granddaughter, and a nephew.

The funeral ceremony for Glenn Beard will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at the Grandview Community Bible Church with Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:30 PM.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Grandview Community Bible Church and the Louisa County Historical Society.
