Forrest Dale Wasson

Forrest Dale Wasson, 84, of Monmouth, Il., died at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home, Roseville, Illinois.

Forrest was born on November 1, 1918, in Lone Tree. He was the son of John and Harriett Atkin Wasson.

He married Dorothy Lindstrom on April 25, 1958, in Monmouth.

Forrest was a cook for many years for Hendricks Café and later for Sunset Restaurant, both in Monmouth. He then worked in the maintenance department for Monmouth College for 20 years. Most recently, he was a guard at Butler Manufacturing on weekends for 10 years. He retired at age 80.

He was raised in Columbus Junction, where he attended local schools. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in Rome, Southern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe as a cook. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed television and sports of all kinds.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Susan (Steven) Ross of Biggsville, Il.; sons, Karl K. Kaminski of Galesburg, Il., Don E. Kaminski of Danvile, NH., Lewis Dean Wasson Oberhaus of Kalamazoo, Michigan, David Wasson of East Peoria, Il., Calvin Wasson, Paul F. (Theresa) Wasson of Waukegan, Il., numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Lyle E. Wasson of Fredonia; nieces, Myrna (James) Sherlock and Carol (Larry) Rutt both of Iowa City; and one nephews, Tom (Merry) Wasson of Columbus Junction.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Elard L. Wasson.

The funeral for Forrest was Saturday, September 6, at the Turnbull Funeral Home, with Pastor Ken Muck officiating. Burial was in Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth.

A memorial has been established for Countryside Bible Church.
