The Rev. Burris Moore

The Rev. Burris Paul Moore, 95, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at the Otterbein Retirement Living Community, Leipsic, Ohio, where he has resided for the past few years.

Born on January 15, 1908 in Cisco, Sangamon County, Ill;, he was the son of Arthur P. and Lovinah Kuns Moore. His education was completed at Findlay College, Findlay, Ohio.

He was first employed as a plumber for five years. He then began his ministerial duties at the Troy Grove Church near Mendota, Ill. He was ordained in 1937. He served as pastor of several churches in Illinois and Indiana. In Iowa, he served both the Cairo Church of God and Pleasant Grove Bethel Church of God in the 1940s and again in the 1950s.

On April 4, 1931, he married Esther I. Copenhaver. She died Nov. 30, 1970.

On December 30, 1972, he married Glois L. Schrader. She died November 22, 1989. On October 6, 1990, he married Helen Grantz Springer. They made their home in Ohio.

Rev. Moore was a member of the Collamer First Church of God, South Whitely, Indiana, where he had served as pastor from 1962 to 1968.

Survivors include his wife Helen, a resident of Roselawn Nursing Home in Spencerville, Ohio; two sons, Paul A. and wife Vera Moore of Portage, Ohio, and John D. and wife Katie Moore of Walnut Creek, California; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Philip.

Services were held Friday, August 29 at Collamer First Church of God, South Whitely, Indiana, with burial in the South Whitely Cemetery.
