David J. Masson

David J. Masson, 79 of Oakville, died Thursday, September 25, 2003, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center.

The graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 27 in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, with the Rev. Richard Boyd officiating. A time of fellowship was held at the Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, following the services at the cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Oakville First Responders.

Mr. Masson was born November 2, 1923 in Washington, the son of John and Dora Montgomery Masson. He was a graduate of Washington High School and later graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in business.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran.

He was a banker and stock broker. For many years he worked at Washington and Winfield banks. In later years he was an auditor at Nordic Hills Country Club in Itasca, Ill. He retired in 1983. After retiring he moved to Oakville. He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include two sons, David Masson II of Mount Pleasant and Robert Masson of Oakville; three daughters, Lana Spears of Mediapolis, Shelly Edwards of Morning Sun and Johnette Evans of Mesa, Arizona; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Barker of Washington and Catherine Smith of Bellevue, Washington; and a brother, William Masson Jr. of Rockford, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a grandson.
