Juanita F. Mulford, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit, Mt. Pleasant.

A funeral service for Mrs. Mulford was held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 15 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. Pastor Bryan Katchay, Interim Pastor of the Congregational Church, officiated. Burial was on Sunday at the Columbus City Cemetery, Columbus City, IA. Friends called from 12 Noon to 9 PM on Friday at the Kimzey Funeral Home. The family was present to receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday evening.

Mrs. Mulford, the former Juanita Francis Fisher, was born May 14, 1930 in Iowa City, IA. She was the daughter of Max “Mick” and Ruth (Reece) Fisher. She was raised in Columbus Junction and graduated from Columbus Junction High School in 1948. On February 6, 1949 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA, Juanita was united in marriage to Clifford Ray Mulford. Mr. Mulford died October 30, 1995 at the West Point Care Center, West Point, IA.

Mrs. Mulford made her home in the communities where her husband was employed by the telephone company. They included New London, IA, Aledo, IL, Albert City, IA and Donnellson. They moved permanently to Mt. Pleasant in 1967. Juanita worked at the Sugar Plum Day Care, O’Connor’s Clothing Store and Martha Browns Women’s Apparel. She also provided child day care in her home for many years. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Mt. Pleasant. She was a former member of T.T.T. She held a special fondness in her heart for all animals. In her home, she cherished her collection of antique glassware that centered around dishes from her parents.

Those thankful for sharing in Juanita’s life include 2 sons and their wives, Doug and Tammy Mulford and Craig and Jeanne Mulford, all of Mt. Pleasant; 2 daughters, Patricia “Pat” Riley and her husband, Lyle of Wasilla, AK and Jane Mulford of Hillsboro, IA; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, husband and a son in infancy, Edward Floyd Mulford preceded Juanita in death.
