Howard Adolphson, 12, was instantly killed Wednesday afternoon when he reportedly ran into the side of a gravel truck driven by Dan Ford of Mt. Pleasant.

Ford was driving east on Highway 34 through New London when the lad, playing with several other boys ran into the side of the truck. Wittnesses of the accident told Sheriff Manning Cline, of Mt. He ran into the truck, which was loaded with 4 tons of limestone, directly behind the right door.

Witnesses told Sheriff Cline that Ford, who said he was driving about 10 or 12 miles per hour, stopped within 12 feet after teh boy hit the truck.

Boys playing with Adolphson were G.A. Elliott, Wayne Taeger and Bobby Harper, all 13 years of age.
