BECKER, Arley P.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Arley P. Becker, 75, of 140 Main St., Fruitland, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Unity Hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Hubbard of the Letts Bible Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be John Carsten, Greg Lindle, Tom Sneddon, Jimmy Painter, Larry Gage, Steve DeRiemacker, and David Cooper. Burial will be at Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Arley Becker Memorial Fund.

Mr. Becker was born on Aug. 12, 1925, in Muscatine, the son of Herman and Margaret Shurck Becker. He married Nellie M. Foor on May 10, 1949, in Iowa City.

He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, playing cards and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a construction worker and after his retirement, he spent most of his time remodeling his daughter's homes.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Becker, of Fruitland; four daughters, Mary Ann Gatzke and her husband, Donald, of Atalissa, Arla Becker Stapp and her husband, Gary, of Grandview, Connie Hawley and her husband, Curt, of Loveland, Colo., and Jody Becker of Muscatine; one step-son, Richard Hathaway and his wife, Penny, of Clayton, N. C.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gertrude Carsten of Davenport and Virginia "Pete" Lindle of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marian Painter and Mildred DeRiemacker.
