Garland, Charles D.

Charles D. Garland, 84, of Morning Sun, died Thursday, August 21, 2003 at the Morning Sun Care Center.

The son of Fred and Retta Reams Garland, he was born February 10, 1919, at Winfield. On September 30, 1939, he married Alice Randall at Kahoka, Mo. She died January 3, 1987.

Mr. Garland was a lifelong farmer, farming in the Morning Sun Community. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include three sons, Leland Garland and wife Donna of Wapello, Marvin Garland of Burlington and Roger Garland and wife Connie of Mediapolis; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Hunt of Wapello and Freda Klindenberg of Colorado; two brothers, Donald Garland of North Carolina and James Garland of Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, one brother, and one granddaughter.

The funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun with the Rev. Harlan Winter officiating. Burial followed at the Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. The family met with friends from 9:30 until time of the service Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established for the Morning Sun Care Center and the Morning Sun Community Ambulance.
