Clara Wykert

Clara Rose Wykert, 84, of Oakville, died Sunday morning, August 3, 2003, at her home. The daughter of Arthur E. and Ruby Fay Gwin Richardson, she was born February 5, 1919, at Samburg, Iowa. She married Samuel Charles Wykert on September 15, 1937, at Muscatine. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2001.

She attended grade school at Toolesboro, her freshman year at Morning Sun, sophomore year at Grandview, junior year at Oakville and then completed her GED through Burlington High School in 1964.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Oakville, having served as Sunday School Superintendent and was always very active in the UMW, having served many offices including district offices. She always was ready to work with any community activity or organization including the Community Food Pantry or simply visiting at the nursing homes.

As a homemaker, she was an excellent seamstress and quilter, had helped on the farm and had also dressed fish. She later opened Clara’s Dairy Nook in Oakville and later yet build and operated Clara’s Café in Oakville.

She was very much involved with her family and church.

Survivors include three daughters, Faye and Brian Richardson of Farmersville Station, N.Y., Sharon and Delbert Hembree of Lagro, Indiana and Barb and Keith Brockway of Burlington; two sons, Tom and Judy Wykert of Oakville and Gary and Linda Richardson of Wapello; nine grandchildren, Wanda Allender, Debi Burke, Geri Massey, Dr. Tamra Richardson, Doyle Hembree, Deanna Bietzel, Delta Meyer, Traci McCleary and Kerri Kronfeldt; sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, John Henry Richardson of LaSalle, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sam, and two sisters, Leota and Iola.

The funeral service for Clara Wykert was held Wednesday t the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with the Rev. Chris Thomas and Harlan W. Winter officiating. Music was provided by John Zippe, along with selected recordings. Pallbearers were Jim Massey, Dallas Burke, Mike Burke, Donny Kronfeldt, Jim Deitrick and Doyle Hembree. Honorary bearers were Charlie Kramer, Donald Kramer, Harry Wykert, Jack Wykert, Charlie Friedel and Bert Eddy. Burial followed in the Edwards Cemetery, Oakville.

Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home. The family met with friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of various charitable organizations.
