John Verink

John Henry Verink, 88, of Letts, died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at his residence. He was born April 25, 1915, rural Letts, Iowa, the son of John T. and Florence Hunter Verink. He married E. Luciel Hogan on February 10, 1937.

He farmed most of his life. He enjoyed bowling and hunting, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of the Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction; one son, Tim Verink and his wife Linda of Letts; one daughter, Bonnie D. Hinkson of Des Moines; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and one niece, Mary Breedlove of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, William Verink and one sister, Zelda Stump.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Leo Herlein, Ralph Herlein, Bill Dieckman, Randy Dieckman, Scott Devore, D.J. Conaway and Jim Bieri.

Burial was in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of fellowship was held in the Community Room at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home.

Visitation was 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be directed to the Louisa County Ambulance, Letts Fire Department or Hospice of Iowa City.
