Geneva Maxine Peterson, age 90, of Wapello, died Friday morning, July 22, 2011, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. The daughter of Henry and Emma Jane Knox Harrison, she was born at home in Port Louisa. She married Carl LeRoy Peterson on October 11, 1939 at Grandview. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1993.

Geneva worked as a cook and a waitress for several years in several area cafes. She then went to work at Thatcher Plastic Packaging in Muscatine and retired in 1977.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello. She enjoyed cooking for her friends and family, quilting, dancing, and playing cards. She also spent a lot to time caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her family surviving includes two daughters, Carol & Dave Barrick of Roach, Missouri and Mollie & Ed Moehle of Mediapolis; four grandchildren, Kermit & Carolyn Peterson of Wapello, Chad & Beth Barrick of Overland Park Kansas, Jennifer & Byron Poole of Wapello, and Kevin McCormick of Macomb, Illinois; fifteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Winifred Ives of Wapello.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; a son, Kermit; a grandson, Mike Barrick; three brothers, Rex, Lawrence, and Henry ‘Bud’ Harrison; and four sisters, Letha Rose, Lois Stineman, Wilma McKinney, and Ona Littrel.

The funeral ceremony for Geneva Peterson will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit and the Keck Memorial Library at Wapello for large print books.
