Preston was born August 8, 1919 in rural Ainsworth, Iowa the son of Floyd H. and Blanche (Willey) Edmondson. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1937 and attended business-college in Quincy, Illinois for one year. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army from January 6, 1942 to November 2, 1945, where he served in the Aleutian Islands. He was awarded a Good Conduct medal and an Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with one Battle Star. Preston was united in marriage to Darlene Marie Shalla on November 18, 1947 in Ainsworth, Iowa. Darlene preceded him in death in 1983. Preston was later united in marriage to Joyce Greene on March 8, 1985 in Iowa City, Iowa. He was a life long resident of Louisa and Washington Counties. He farmed all of his life, was a hard working cattle and hog farmer and a good steward of the land.

Preston dearly loved his family, many friends and neighbors, and his friendly spirit was loved by all that knew him. He was a real “people person”, who loved to visit with others, listening and sharing about life.

He was a lifelong member of the Ainsworth Community Church, serving in both the choir and on several committees, all with a firm spiritual conviction.

He was very proud of his military service, of the friends for life he made there, and his active participation with the American Legion, and had the great honor with deep appreciation for the WW II Honor Tour he got to participate in last fall.

In retirement, he had many passions and interests, such as continuing to go out to and staying involved with the farm, gardening, spending winters in Florida, college basketball and particularly watching the Hawks, a great love of music, and always conversing with others.

Preston is survived by his wife, Joyce Edmondson of Washington; son, Craig Edmondson of Columbus Junction; son, Alan Edmondson and wife, Julie of Columbus Junction; stepsons, Ron Greene of Iowa City; Jeff Greene of Fairfield; Larry Greene and wife, Judi and their three children of Alleman, Iowa; brother, Clair “Rollin” Edmondson of Washington; sister, Correne Hendrickson of Muscatine; sister, Myra Piotrowski of Muscatine; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene in 1983; granddaughter, Molly Marie Edmondson in 2006; and two brothers, Richard and Jay Edmondson.
